Tropical cyclone damage assessment of distributed infrastructure systems under spatially correlated wind speeds

چکیده

Probabilistic damage evaluation and loss estimation of spatially distributed infrastructure systems (e.g. an electric power system or a building portfolio) under scenario tropical cyclone must consider the spatial correlation wind speeds to estimate their impact on built environment statistically. Previous studies have seldom considered this assessments civil infrastructure. In paper, stochastic field model is developed capture uncertainty for North Atlantic region. A series recorded speed fields historical events are examined. The bias values between computed based widely used cyclonic obtained. statistics estimated using geostatistical tools. effect performance assessment illustrated system, where metrics ratio, outage ratio cost.

Reexamination of Tropical Cyclone Wind–Pressure Relationships

Tropical cyclone wind–pressure relationships are reexamined using 15 yr of minimum sea level pressure estimates, numerical analysis fields, and best-track intensities. Minimum sea level pressure is estimated from aircraft reconnaissance or measured from dropwindsondes, and maximum wind speeds are interpolated from best-track maximum 1-min wind speed estimates. The aircraft data were collected p...

Spatially Distributed Normative Infrastructure

In previous works we have presented a model to describe and simulate environment for situated multi-agent systems, that we called ELMS. Here, we present an extensions to our model that provide means to have normative information distributed in the environment. Organisational structures for multi-agent systems are usually defined independently of any spatial or temporal structure. Therefore, whe...

Equivalence of Spatially Correlated and Distributed MIMO Systems

Wireless communication systems with multiple antennas, so-called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, offer huge advantages over conventional single-antenna systems – both with regard to capacity and error performance. Typically, quite restrictive assumptions are made in the literature concerning the antenna spacings at transmitter and receiver: On the one hand, one normally assumes t...

Tropical Cyclone Wind Estimation Using Synthetic Aperture Radar

We have investigated various SAR images of tropical cyclones, which were acquired by the SAR aboard the satellites ENVISAT and RADARSAT-1 at different polarizations and incidence angles, using a similar approach as suggested by Horstmann et al., 2005 [1]. The resulting SAR-retrieved wind fields are compared to results of high-resolution numerical models as well as in situ measurements collected...

Upper Ocean Response to Tropical Cyclone Wind Asymmetries

The most apparent effect of a tropical cyclone on the upper ocean is the marked cooling of sea surface temperature (SST) that is clearly seen in Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) images of SST. As a storm intensifies, the increasing wind speed may increase evaporation and supply the storm with the necessary source of heat for further intensification. However, the significant SST ...
